Amphiboles (crocidolite, amosite, tremolite, and anthophyllite) are straight, stiff, more brittle fibers. They are more toxic than serpentine fibers, which are less soluble and straight. They usually align with the airstream and penetrate the epithelium deeper into the lungs and interstitium.
